Why do we do what we do? PDF Print E-mail

The wonderful volunteers at Babybumps do what they do, because they know how hard life can seem. They now that just surviving, coping and struggling is exhausting and that there has to be a better way. There is, by reaching out and developing a good support system, seeking treatment (whether it be counselling, medication, alternative) and concentrating on the small positive steps life does improve and soon the dark cloud of PND starts to turn a softer shade of dark until eventually the darkness disappears and sunlight returns once again. We want to help make the struggle for women, their children, partners and families easier and shorter in duration. We want to make a difference, not because we are bleeding hearts, but rather we understand, we feel, we empathise and care. We can see, we can hear and we can feel what you are going through and we hope to educate, empower and support you in getting through this bumpy part of the road of parenting and life. One of our mantras is

"we are not defined by how we fall, but rather how we pick ourselves up and move forward in this game of life"    sometimes we can pick ourselves up, other times we need a little gentle help from others such as Babybumps.

We do what we do because of the  women and families that attend the support group and playgroup, the difference that we can make by just combining our time, passion and energy into a common good.

The people that attend the support group have embarked upon a challenging, frightening journey. We have witnessed the growth and development that the vast majority have achieved. We have witnessed the way in which a mother initially unable to separate form her child (tears, anxiety) grows into a mother that confidently parts from her child minus the anxiety (still some tears sometimes). We have witnessed the change that children have undergone by being able to securely attach from their mother/care giver. These small details are invaluable and may not sound a lot, but they are huge and mean the world to the women that attend our support group.

We have watched how individuals who were first shy, introverted, isolated, angry, hurt have come out of their shell and developed relationships built on trust and commonality with other mothers. We have watched friendships develop, with these go confidence and strength.

The support group offers a safe welcoming non-judgemental environment in which issues regardless of the depth can be shared (some being trivial others life altering)
We know we are doing something special and we get something out of it on a personal level.
