History
Baby Bumps are a group of community volunteers – passionate, driven, diverse and responsive. We have an array of members who have a diverse range of professional backgrounds, skill bases and lived experiences.
What we have in common a special thread that binds us all together into one cohesive effective team. That thread is experience of POST NATAL DEPRESSION &/or ANXIETY and its effects upon those it savages. Our volunteers have either experienced this personally or vicariously through a loved one. We are acutely aware of PND’s impact upon the individuals, the families and communities involved and we are actively doing something constructive to lessen its affect upon others.
We provide women and families with access to a structured professionally run support group to talk about their concerns. We provide quality child-minding and time out for both the mothers and the children. We help to foster a positive parenting experience for the mothers and families involved.
We help to encourage and empower the families in what is often a time of isolation, confusion, pain and anger for those experiencing AND & PND.
Just as an infant grows and develops so too has Baby Bumps evolved from an ‘ideal’ a ‘concept’ to that of a proven successful support group. Four years & going strong, the demand for our service and our qualities are high. We still incorporate the values of outreach, support, information and education within our service. PND & Anxiety is a bumpy ride along the path of parenting- we re-evaluated the values underpinning our service, our client base, our support base and our overall structure.
As a result Baby Bumps Support group is a relevant and appropriate community service that assists individuals and families along the bumpy and uncertain path of parenting.
AWARDS:
In 2007 Baby Bumps was awarded the NSW DoCS Children's Week 'Community for Children Award'.
Special Event history:
In 2007, 2008 and 2009 annual retreats have been held. 2007 the retreat in Central Coast area was a wonderful escape from the hustle and stress of family life. In 2008 & 2009, the retreat at Wisemans Ferry was relaxing & beneficial to everyone who came for the weekend or just 1 day. We had an awesome weekend of plenty of R& R, laughter, meditation, learning and down time. The art therapy & foot massages added a little extra excitement. As mums we know the crayon is great for making mess, but we learnt that we all have drawing skills that have meaning. All the mums returned home with new life & optimistic for the rest of the year.
